2024 Demonstration Program

Demonstrations of painting techniques will be held at the following times in a room within the Art Show venue in the ATC Building at Swinburne University 427 Burwood Rd., Hawthorn. The area is accessible by lift, escalator, or stairs. These are free presentations to Art Show patrons and feature leading artists from around Australia. Demonstrating artists will be available for discussion at the end of their presentations, or in the designated area where their paintings are displayed at the Art Show. In between demonstrations, view the show and over a coffee or lunch in the nearby cafe decide whether you agree with this year’s judges.

Saturday 22nd June: 11.00am Mike Barr Acrylic It’s not very often that Melbourne artists can watch the art show’s chief judge, South Australian Mike Barr show his noted skills in creating one of his signature rainy day scenes.
2.00pm Stefan Gevers W/C Stefan’s award winning and contemporary approach to the watercolour medium will reward viewers when he displays his distinctive style while depicting a rural landscape.
Sunday 23rd June: 11.00am Ted Dansey W/C Talented watercolourist Ted will demonstrate his fresh and deceptively simple style while painting a boat scene that observers will enjoy watching being created.
2.00pm Lisa Wang Oil A highly skilled and internationally popular artist, Lisa will depict one of her sensitive Venetian scenes in oil for this demonstration.
Monday 24th June: 11.00am Mike Kowalski W/C Mike has won numerous plein air competition and will give artists who enjoy painting outdoors tips and techniques on making the most of this pleasurable activity.
2.00pm Liz Moore Golding Oil Viewers will be in for a treat when they watch award winning portraitist, Liz displays the techniques she uses to create one of her distinctive portraits. She will display her ability to capture the essence of a person using the synthesis of both representational and abstract styles.
Saturday 29th June: 11.00am Alison Clark Pastel Alison will demonstrate how to create fur on an animal using her effective pastel technique.
2.00pm Yesim Gozukara W/C Yesim is a popular and successful watercolourist whose skilled application of textural effects makes her an in-demand demonstrator.
Sunday 30th June: 11.00am Nina Volk W/C Nina is having great success capturing the essence of place with her atmospheric tonal watercolours. A must-see demonstration.
2.00pm Julian Bruere & Ben Winspear W/C & Oil Ben and Julian will entertain observers as they display their artistic skills while creating a scene that combines their individual talents.
