Battle of the Cities Brings in Big Guns
The old rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney will be on show again next week at the Camberwell Art Show.
This year NSW art agents Showcase Art Gallery arrive at the show with 92 works from 23 of NSW’s top artists. Meanwhile local heroes Without Pier Gallery also exhibit a large selection of 62 works from their top 23 artists.
Showcase has been exhibiting with great success at Camberwell for 22 years. According to MD Peter Messer they have sold up to 800 works during that time to a value of $1.1m.
"I regard the Camberwell Art Show as the best run and performing in Australia" said Peter. "We have had a long relationship with Camberwell and every year look forward to bringing our artists down. The Showcase NSW artists are world acclaimed and members of the Royal Art Society. They sell at the top end of the market and are recognised by their peers and are highly sort after in the market. Over the years our artists have been successful at Camberwell winning 17 prizes including 3 Best In Show awards," he said.
Local Bayside Gallery Without Pier has been representing their stable of artists at Camberwell for 8 years. According to MD Terry Earle they look forward to exhibiting. "Camberwell is the most prestigious charity art show in Australia. It is a must exhibit event and has a large artist prize pool. We have been fortunate to win 4 or 5 awards a year in the past. The show has a contemporary feel which suits our artist at the premium end of the art scene with a strong acclaim in landscape and realism works." Terry also likes to exhibit not only established artists but also emerging talent for which he compliments Camberwell for providing a showcase for all this diversity.
Art from these two galleries is highly sought after and always results in a rush on Camberwell's Gala Opening Night 6th July amongst patrons keen to have a sold sticker on their selection.
