Tonia Sanft Biography: Tonia is a Melbourne artist who paints a variety of genres and styles from impressionist landscapes and seascapes and colourful abstracts to contemporary female nudes. Growing up in Sydney, a large part of Tonia’s leisure time was spent by the ocean, on the beach. She loved spending time idly watching the moods of the weather, its colour and movement. Fun times, basking in the sun and swimming at beaches, such as Era Beach, a remote, little beach in the Royal National Park, and at Sydney beaches, Cronulla, Bondi, and Coogee. It was here where Tonia’s beach and ocean inspiration developed. Living for a number of years in Mansfield Victoria with its stunning, Mt Buller and High Country scenery, gave Tonia a love for mountains, and again, the colour and movement of the weather provided great inspiration. Now living in Melbourne, she is drawn back to painting the ocean, the beauty of the beaches of Port Phillip Bay, and the back beaches of the Mornington Peninsula. Study: Tonia has studied in various art classes face-to-face and online, including:

Artist Statement: The Impressionists continue to influence for me greatly.  I use colour and texture to capture the sheer beauty of nature, the play of light and its extraordinary colour and movement. I like to paint these moments in time, particularly the weather and its impact on the sky and ocean. Also its interaction with people is of particular interest.
