This series of paintings followed visits to the Kakadu and the Kimberley regions in the Northern Territory where I felt an overwhelming awe of the unique light and colour of the Desert.
The love of this unique landscape is combined with a reverence for the original people of the desert who for thousands of years have lived and thrived in this wonderful place. They leave their marks through their rock art and their tracks to their secret places for meetings and rituals all reflecting their reverence for country. Sometimes it is possible to find hidden images of the people, animals and vegetation in the paintings.
The sounds of the wind whipping across the desert, the smell of rain on hot earth, and the movement of wildlife across plains are all elements which I use as inspiration to weave colours, shapes and rhythms into pieces. She finds lines and shapes which relate to her own experience, resulting in an ever-present tension between reality and abstraction.
