Sue Hourigan

  • Biography

Sue has become well known as an accomplished artist in north east Victoria and southern NSW. Sue is a member of the Bright Art Gallery, and has exhibited and sold her works at various art shows over the years, winning numerous prizes and highly commended awards along the way. Sue also just completed a 2 year artist residency with Art Gallery on Ovens in Wangaratta. Most recently Sue won Best Oil at the 2024 Bright Autumn Art Show for the second consecutive year (Best Oil 2023) and Best Pastel in 2021. Sue also won the Best Pastel award at St Bernard’s Art Show in Wangaratta in Nov 2023. In addition to her website Sue’s works can be viewed at Carlisle Art in Benalla, and the Olive Shop in Milawa. Many of her paintings are now sold as commissioned works.

Sue followed a technical career path, graduating as an engineer and working in technical roles for all of her working life. She believes that this has held her in good stead with respect to her ability to achieve technical accuracy in her artworks. Sue decided about 10 years ago to make more time for her real passion, and worked part time up until retiring in April 2024, allowing her the luxury of spending more time at the easel.
