I am Japanese and came to Melbourne 5 years ago to start a family. I studied architecture at uni and worked at a few design companies in Tokyo. Over time, I became fascinated by interior design. Now I am always dreaming about adding a Japanese influence to others’ homes and spaces.
My paintings are acrylic and mixed media abstracts inspired by Japandi (Japanese and Scandinavian/Nordic mixed) interior style, Wabi-Sabi beauty - the traditional Japanese philosophy of beauty and Japanese ceramics.
I focus on textured and multi-layered antique looking bodies and use of the Japandi colour palette, which is made of natural grayish, earthy colours and abstract shapes and markings.
Being Japanese and having grown up with Japanese culture allows me to naturally express Wabi-Sabi beauty. We find beauty in minimalism, simplicity and incompletion/imperfection. Introducing the concept of Wabi-Sabi outside Japan is my dream and goal as an artist.
