Liz Turner

Biography

Liz’s interest in art started at a young age but was only pursued seriously twelve years ago. Catherine Hamilton ignited a passion for the pastel medium, and recently, Twenty Melbourne Painters members, Fiona Bilbrough and Bill Caldwell, have provided tutelage in oils.
 
Experiencing European galleries first-hand, joining the Paris Urban Sketchers and sketching at the famous Grande Chaumiere Art Acadamie in Paris have enhanced an appreciation of the wider context of art in society and its traditions.
 
A short teaching stint in a remote indigenous community in the East Kimberley deepened an already keen interest in aboriginal history, culture and a belief that reconciliation starts with individual awareness. Resultant portraits and figurative studies are a small contribution to this cause.
 
Painting preference: portraits and figurative subjects in pastel or oils.
