Laila Tabassum is a self-taught individual who has harboured a passion for art since childhood. Her journey into the world of art began at the tender age of nine when her father gifted her with her first set of oil paints. Being an intuitive and inquisitive child, she simultaneously explored other mediums. Later in life, she did her bachelor’s degree in architecture. This pursuit helped her develop a sense of aesthetics, which she has since incorporated into her artistic endeavours.
Upon migrating to Australia, she reignited her passion for art. The vast and boundless beauty of nature continues to fuel her curiosity and fascination, making it her primary subject matter. Living in the city of Melbourne has deepened her appreciation of nature's manifold wonders. Despite her preference for mixed media art, she also seeks to explore the full spectrum of artistic mediums, including oil, pencil, oil pastels, acrylic, textile art, fabric art, and most recently, resin and pyrography. To her, the possibilities for artistic expression are limitless.
Recently, she has begun teaching primary and middle school students, allowing her to pass on her self-taught methodologies and techniques. She also serves as a committee member of the Monash Community Art Society and runs workshops there. Winner of People’s choice award at AMA Art Prize 2019 sponsored by Latrobe University, Won the Encouragement Award at Noble Park Community Centre Art show 2022. Won the Friday Carol Award at Amaroo Neighbourhood Annual Art Show 2023.
