I am an abstract artist by choice and a language teacher by trade. Based in Melbourne, I was born in Italy in 1983 where I pursued my studies in Interpreting and Translating at university. In 2010 I commenced my teaching career in Australia and later I completed several teaching qualifications. I can speak Italian, English, French, Spanish, and German. I have had an interest in and admiration for verbal and non-verbal communication since a young age and a passion for foreign languages, the history of art, philosophy, and music, which inspires my creativity, imagination, and curiosity. I believe that any form of communication to be effective requires a deeper connection among those involved in the moment. I consider abstract painting in particular a powerful form of visual communication because it activates a visceral connection between the artist and his/her true self, but it also creates a deep connection between the artist and the viewer, who can interpret the hidden messages of the piece.
As a self-taught abstract artist, I have unleashed my passion for painting as an adult. Since then, abstract painting has become for me a solid and versatile tool to express inner states, personal association with colors, and practice mindfulness. My work is influenced by Pollock’s balanced and controlled chaos, Kandinsky’s geometric forms, and Boccioni’s idea of motion and dynamism. In my paintings I use palette knives, sponges, brushes, and other tools to create lines and contrasting shapes, a variety of textures and combination of colors. I choose color shades based on my personal association of them with specific emotions, the inner world, or, sometimes, natural elements.
My paintings are mostly crowded with spontaneous and at times spasmodic brush strokes, lines, contrasting shapes, and paint splatters but are always melding harmoniously to create an aesthetic, energic yet controlled artwork. Along with the superimposition of colors, my compositions express constant movement and rhythm and create an overall uplifting flow of energy that permeates the whole canvas and evokes a positive emotional response from the viewer, who can assign his or her own different meaning to the piece.
I have received several international awards, including Finalist Awards, Honorable Mentions, Talent Prize, and Artist of the Month Award from Art Show International Gallery and Camel Back Gallery. My work is and has been exhibited in several exhibitions in Melbourne, most recently at Gallery Elysium.
