Ellen McKenna is a Melbourne based artist and designer whose abstract work focuses on colour, balance and movement. Describing herself as a colour maximalist, Ellen’s work is bold and designed to evoke emotions like joy and happiness. Inspired by multidisciplinary design elements from the early to mid-20th Century, Ellen’s aesthetic is also shaped by her lifelong study and love of the arts which includes, a Certificate IV in Design, a Certificate IV in Interior Decorating and graduating with a degree in Visual and Performing Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts. Ellen's artwork has, so far, been featured in products by fashion, textile and home wares clients throughout Australia and internationally, along with solo exhibitions at the Town Hall Gallery in Hawthorn, and also the 'Feeling Colours’ exhibition which was hosted by the Bluethumb Art Gallery which was part of the NGV's Melbourne Design Week 2021.
Ellen works in both digital and painterly repeat pattern design, along with acrylic paint and canvas for her fine art pieces.
