Denise George – Artist
Denise spent her formative years growing up amidst the charm and architecture of the 1960’s in Canterbury, a suburb of Melbourne.
She worked in drafting and town planning before moving with her husband, Richard, to the visually stunning environs of Bright, a well known haven for artists nestled at the foot of Mt. Buffalo and Mt. Hotham.
After being spoilt for rural and mountain beauty Denise and family moved to her current home in Mt. Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula, an area abounding in the beauty of the sea. A subject Denise often returns to in her paintings.
The raising and educating of her four children meant the brush and paints remained idle until the vacant cubby house transformed into a well equipped studio. After a short course in acrylics with Felicity Liebert her defining moment came with her introduction to leading contemporary artist Terrence John Hadler with whom she has been studying with since.
Her inspiration starts with colour closely followed by the subject using mainly oils but on occasion using acrylics and mixed media.
Earlier Denise’s style was mainly contemporary abstract but is now definitely leaning towards impressionism.
Denise has successfully exhibited in many Mornington Peninsula Restaurants and Wineries, Manyung Gallery, Original Oz Art Gallery as well as numerous Art Shows and Exhibitions on the Peninsula, North East Victoria and across metropolitan Melbourne receiving many awards for her work. She was also selected as a Featured Artist at the recent Bayside Art Show.
Denise is also a member of the Peninsula Artful Dodgers Art Group.
