  • Biography

    David Hoyt grew up on a large bush block in Lapoinya, on the fringe of the takayna / Tarkine rain-forest in North West Tasmania. David is interested in capturing the wild rivers and forest landscape he grew up around.
    Painting predominately in oil, his work celebrates naturalism and a connection to place.

    Since receiving a Bachelor degree of Fine Art: Painting, from RMIT University in 2010, David’s achievements include winning the John Shaw Neilson Art Prize in 2018, finalist in the John Leslie Art Prize 2020 and the Heysen Prize for Landscape 2020. Currently based in Penshurst, Victoria, David lives with his artist wife Amy and their three young children.
