Caroline Calway

Biography

 I grew up in suburbia in England so I am in awe every time I travel within Australia. I am deeply inspired to paint what I see and feel. I have been lucky enough to have travelled through the kimberleys, along the Gibb River Road and recently Cape York. I hope to inspire the viewer to see the vastness of the land but also the small beautiful details within it. I am particularly fascinated by the interaction between the sky and the land along the horizon and recently have bought into my paintings, water and with that the reflections from the land and sky and how then each is changed by this union.




 There is nothing like the anticipation of a blank canvas. The endless 
possibilities, the stories and journeys that as an artist you are about to go on. 
I try to set out with no pre-conceived ideas of how the journey will end. 
For me painting is a source of wonder and every brushstroke leads the painting along, each dictating the meaning and spirit of the painting. An artist has to be very patient sometimes waiting for the painting to speak and reveal its story. Each painting has a unique journey that draws on many sensations and motions to reveal an image that hopefully connects with the viewer
