  • Biography

    Born in Melbourne.

    Studied drawing at the National Gallery Art School, Melbourne, under Ian Armstrong 1960 - 61.

    Studied oil painting at the Victorian Artists Society under Shirley Bourne OAM, 1969 - 73.

    Attended study tours in history of fine art in France, Germany, Italy and Russia, 1984 - 85.

    Exhibited as one of the "Seven Painters" in Melbourne and Adelaide in the 1970's.

    Solo exhibitions at the Rosalind Humphries Galleries 1974; Russell Davis Gallery 1976; Malvern Fine Art Gallery 1981; Victorian Artists Society Galleries 1985, 1988, 1989; Ararat Regional Gallery 1989; Noel Stott Fine Art Gallery 1993, 1998; Adam Galleries 2000, 2004, 2007; Eva Breuer Art Dealer 2003; Kinross Arts Centre 2016. Display of Japanese works, Consulate-General of Japan, Melbourne, 2019. Retrospective exhibition: “Reflections”, Barn Gallery, Montsalvat, 2021.

    Fellow of the Victorian Artists Society. Member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors. Member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society Inc. Member of the Chelsea Arts Club, London.

    Is an artist-in-residence at "Montsalvat", Eltham, where she teaches informally. Paints directly from nature and life. Keeps subject range varied, although particularly enjoys movement and the changing situations en plain air. In early 2012, recorded impressions in Kawaguchiko, Japan; 2013, in Shizuoka and Kanazawa; 2015, Shikoku and Kyushu; 2017; Tohoku; 2018 Nagano, Japan.

    In private, civic and corporate collections in Australia and overseas.

    Awarded the A.M.E. Bale Art Travelling Scholarship in 1983.

    Has received commendations in mixed exhibitions from Sir William Dargie, Louis Kahan, Elwyn Lynn, Fred Williams, Susan McCulloch (MSWPS 2009). Awarded the Annie Davison Oliver Award by Lauraine Diggins, 2005.
